Question NewB Q - Best iso burning software

Forgive the stupid question....I'm a linux novice.

I am trying to get a friend to send me an iso copy of his hard disc (a live, running version of a particular distro/config of MythTV) on a linux platform.

The ideal result would be an iso CD (a "load and go" CD)that I can insert into my own computer (of course with enough disc space to accommodate all the data) which would "self install" (like a linux 'live' distro).

The result is an exact bootable copy of his HDD and MythTV implementation. (basically I want the software to create an installable clone of the MythTV distro).

Could ANYONE please advise the best linux package (or as a last resort Windows packages) that would do achieve this.

    Thanks & Regards
    MD

You can use PartImage. It creates bootable images.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Here's another silly question..

Would the image of a hard disk boot and work in a computer
    with different hardware?

I know it wouldn't in the Windows world

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

    Not automatically, most likely.

Though it all depends. If the kernel is self made, it will miss some hardware support. If it is generic enough like in most binary distros, then that might be ok.

But still, the configuration will not suit you, most likely. And you will definitively need to adjust the config of your bootloader and the contents of /etc/fstab on the new partition if you wan't to boot from it.

More tweaking will surelly be needed.

We face Graphics Card problems mostly and rest depends on partition structure of new disk.

I thought that would be the case... but with the generic nature of the kernels I have
    used I was unsure.
