e2fsck: cannot continue, aborting. People, please help, I can't move any further!!

i was trying to follow as carefully as possible a guide on howtoforge a perfect server with mandriva 2008 free, but after installign ispconfig and rebooting
i got this in the middle of booting:

    checking filesystems
/dev/hda1 is mounted. e2fsck: Cannot continue, aborting
and then it asks for root password for repairing

if anyone could enlighten what's going on here, I would appreciate

e2fsck does not like to run on a mounted partition. Use a live cd and be sure not to mount hda1.

Well, the one that would not like if it ran is YOU, because it would screw all your data. Fsck is not to be run on partitions that are mounted r/w. If the partition is vital for the system to run then you will need to boot from a livecd and fsck it while it is not mounted.
