getting on line is of upmost importance

I have installed redhat 8 and there was no recognition my modem. This is a Gateway XP machine and the Modem description is GTW V.92 PCI slot 5 PCI bus 2 devise 13 function 0.

To learn LINUX I must be able to see sites like this one from within LINUX.

What must I do to get on line?

run lspci -n and post the line starting 02:13.0 this will be the 1 for ur modem and these model numbers are easier to find drivers for than "Gateway modem"

    what now?

That does not appear in the list. The list begins with 00:00.0 and ends with 02:0d.0. What do I do now?

post the one that looks like it is your modem. If it is a winmodem (afaik all 56k pci modems are "winmodems" and are a lot harder to make work in linux but not usualy impossible).
