I just install Xubuntu on an old windows box i had sitting around (specs 127 Mb Ram 30Gb hard disk) and i have the following nooblet questions. How do you set up remote desktop with vnc? Why is it i get logged out when trying to start the terminal? Is there away to get back to the desktop after login into shell? Are there any shell commands to see the stats of the system?
I have alot of problems right now with it but im glad i have such a helpful and friendly forum to answer my questions. Thanks in advance guys, you are the best!!!!

What procedure are you following to get into the terminal? There are several ways to use a terminal, both inside of and outside of the GUI.
That depends on how you entered the shell. If you killed X Windows you can restart it with startx. If you switched to the terminal using a virtual console (ALT+F1, ALT+F2, etc) then sometimes ALT+F7 will bring you back to the GUI.Is there away to get back to the desktop after login into shell? I looked into some more and i think it is some bug in the Xubuntu alternative cd because there were a few other people who had computer specs like mine who had the problem. I'm going to try see if it is installed correctly that seems to be the problem for the others... i'll tell you how it goes.
If not is there any real difference between using the virtual terminal and the GUI terminal?

If I remember rightly, this is a problem with the colour depth you
have set. Try changing it from 24 bit to 16 bit.
It's an odd bug I admit. If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
