    Welcome to the forums!

I'd recommend trying both and then you can decide for yourself which one you like best. Check the link in my signature for lots of good information on getting started with Linux.

    Have fun with it...

I tried a whole bunch of Linux distributions, and didn't really like any of them until I found Debian. However, I think that puts me in a relatively decent position to make a recommendation .

    1) What are you going to use the computer for primarily?

    2) Do you want to get down and dirty customizing a bunch of stuff, do you want it to just work out of the box, or do you want a mix of both? The crux of this question is, how much do you want to learn?

    3) How often do you install new applications?

    4) How old is the computer (specs?)

You can configure any Linux distribution as you like. I would suggest you follow ozar's suggestion and check the link in his signature. It will get you going.

Dont hesitate start a new thread if you have any other problem.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
