Recommend Linux Live CD/DVD
Hi,
I'm wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. My requirements are a Linux live cd/dvd that will work with the wireless built into my Compaq nc6400. I think it's the IPW3945, intel pro wireless (centrino duo)
So far I have tried ubuntu and kubuntu 7.04 which I downloaded because a website said they would be compatiable with my wireless card. Linuxseekers - Linux distros, IPW3945 (updated 2007-07-11) .They work with the intel wireless 2200 on my friends laptop but not with the newer wireless chip in mine.
This may seem an odd request, but due to this laptop being a company laptop I'm unable to install Linux on the hard drive.
I have read that mepis live dvd will work? Could anyone confirm this?
I greatly appreaciate any help.

You might take a look at the later Ubuntu release, 7.10. It has more drivers included. Alternatively you can check out Knoppix or one of the SUSE liveCDs. SUSE has seperate discs for KDE and Gnome, though the KDE4 disc is still a bit raw...I wouldn't look at that one right now.

Thanks for your reply
I've already tried Knoppix. That didn't work either. Tho I will try Suse and some others. Tho, I was more looking for advice on one that will definitely work rather than download/burning trying all the Linux live CD's as it's a slow process and I don't have much time on my hands.
It's a very common wireless card so there must be one that works. I'm keeping my hopes up.

You can find a listing of most liveCD/DVDs here:
The LiveCD List
They break it down into what each liveCD is mainly used for.
Knoppix might be the king of liveCDs, in my opinion.oz

Hi,
I've now tried suse, knoppix, ubuntu, kubuntu and mepis.
If no one knows a live distro that will support my wireless card, does anyone know why?
This is a very common wireless card and I know it's probably supported if I install Linux.
Are there any other Linux forums where someone might know the answer?
Dan
