    Firefox keeps shutting down

    Hi,

I am not sure if this is a linux problem or one for the folks at Mozilla. The problem is, when I go to yahoo maps to get directions, I enter the final destination in B and hit enter the web browser closes. I am using firefox 2.0.0.12 with Ubuntu 7.10. Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you try running Firefox from a terminal? That way you might have error messages that'll help diagnosis.
    Distribution: Archlinux
    Processor: 3 x Amd 64 bit
    Ram: 4 GB
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT

    Hi Manchunian,

I went to my terminal, typed $firefox, and went to yahoo mapswhen the browser opened. I entered the locations into the A and B fields, hit return, and the browser closed abruptly. I went back to the terminal and there were no error messages. Any other ideas?

It could be some corrupted file, a plugin, or even fonts on any certain site that causes FF to crash.

Make sure FF is closed, then try renaming your hidden .mozilla folder in your /home directory, then start FF to let the mozilla folder rebuild itself. Open up FF and go directly to the site in question and see if the browser crashes. If it doesn't, start adding plugins and such back in and revisiting the site to see if it crashes.

If all goes well and it never crashes, you can retrieve your bookmarks file from the renamed folder.

Let us know how it goes.

This happens to me as well but FF crashes every links on any page. When it crashes a dialog comes up saying that it has crashed unexpectedly. This always happens and is extremely annoying.

If I was writing this on Firefox right now, it would have crashed by now and I would have to start from the beggining. I really hope you guys can help me to fix this problem.

    Hi and Welcome !

Have you tried renaming /home/user_id/.mozilla folder as suggested earlier?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

.mozilla folder is in your /home/user-id folder.
    Open Terminal/Konsole and execute this
    Code:
    mv .mozilla Mozilla.bak
Open Firefox and check if it crashes again.

Files and folders with a dot ( . ) in front of them are hidden files/folders.

If you are working from the command line, you can use ls -a to list all files and folders (including the hidden ones).

See LinuxCommand.org for more info on working with the Linux command line.

If you are using a file manager within a desktop environment such as Gnome or KDE, you can set the file manager to show hidden files, and directories.

I don’t know where the /home/user-id folder is. I have searched Program Files in C: and then went on Mozilla Firefox and did not find anything there if that’s what you meant.
