looking for a distro for my laptop
specs first:
toshiba laptop
4.50 gb
190ram
no cdrom drive
no usb recognition in boot but one USB1 slot
no eithernet
OK with the above I know we are looking for a lighter distro
I would like any distro that I can just copy to the harddrive outside the laptop
I can format and prepare form another computer but I am new to editing so I really just want something like copy to disk, place disk in laptop, boot up
footnote: my hobby is saving old laptops
btw fedora ISO fits this bill but it remains the ISO in the laptop and not an actual install

I'd recommend any one of our distributions for older computers. Xubuntu might also work for you. Keep in mind though if you have no ethernet, disc drive or USB that you'll need to download any drivers or other packages you think you'll need (such as graphics drivers if that's an issue) and put them on the drive before you pop it into the laptop.
Some of the reconfiguring you'll have to do afterward could get interesting, depending on the differences between the hardware you use to install the OS and the hardware you have in the laptop. It's an interesting project. Please post back if you have any questions or just want to give a status report.Registered Linux user #270181

thanks, I solved this problem by swapping the harddrive with a distro of mint preinstalled, and then changed the drivers as need be, I still can't get it to turn off without me touching the off button but that is hardly a problem
mint runs slowly but at least there is no after install, so I am happy, and I like this site very much
