What is K-Desktop Enviroment? What are the other ones...What are the specifice features that make them different...

The best place to get find out more information about KDE is going to K Desktop Environment - Be free. KDE is basically a desktop environment for Unix like OSes and its built using the qt toolkit. Another DE is GNOME which is built using the GIMP toolkit (gtk). KDE and GNOME have many similarities, but the general look and feel of the apps is quite different. KDE apps tend to be feature rich, whereas GNOME as a whole focuses on simplicity. As to which is popular, it really depends who you ask. Polls on some sites show KDE as being more popular, but others its vice versa. Other environments and windows managers are XFCE, Enlightenment, ICEWM, Fluxbox, Windowmaker etc.
