Im hopeless
Hi I recently was introduced that Linux existed and got solaris I found out how to open internet after a hour(HURRAY) and came here cause i cant do anything else. My first question is how do i find the folder of a newly put in device. Secondly how do i open exe files(they just open a text thing). Third why cant i use system restore for windows(it says no user account found and one will be made with factory settings then it will open another box and will restart. Next how come when i type in a password it wont show up but will still enter. Is there a media player program installed with this? Will msn messenger work? Can i play Ragnarok Online or World of Warcraft?

Are you using Linux or Solaris ?
Why are you not using Windows?
It sounds like you are a Windows user with requirements of Windows applications ?

Probably not the best reason to switch.

And from the questions you've asked I doubt you're ready for a change. At least not cold turkey, that's for sure, maybe a dual-boot.
But if you want to make the best of it you'll need to forget everything you thought you knew and be willing to do things differently, willing to learn new ways of doing things.
This involves a LOT of reading.

I would also suggest you start with a friendlier system than Solaris, something like
Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu
or
openSUSE.org
They have tons of documentation and how-to's available to make your life easy, with OpenSUSE being the closest thing to Windows.
But you will probably still need to get personal with

Thanks Dies for that link to Ultimate newbies Guide.
I haven't used anything like the CLI since playing with DOS and BASIC back in 1980's for fun.
I wrote some small programs and read a lot of manuals back then.
Relearning old lessons. Again.
Thanks
