    Can someone tell me how to make Sonata Player to work in debian etch ? i can't start the player , i extracted the files into a directory but don't know how to make it work

    What did you exactly download?

    Isn't sonata available in the official debian repositories?

    i downloaded sonata-1.5.tar.gz , no isn't , i can't find it

    That's a source tarball. You would need to compile it and install it yourself before being able to use it.

    If sonata is not officially supported by debian, then you should probably be looking for a .deb package instead elsewhere, which would be instalable using the native debian package manager. I can't help you with that since I am not a debian user and I would probably misguide you.

    If you can't find a .deb package for sonata, then it will be time to compile from source. But first, I would try the .deb way.
