Install FROM flash drive
I have a Sharp laptop without optical drive and would like to install Linux on it. It does boot from USB. How can I put a Linux distro on the USB and then use it to install Linux on my laptop?

You should be able find information on the web for this ... have you picked a distro you want to install yet? Some provide instructions for installation/booting from USB drive for example DSL.

I searched the web all yesterday but could only find information on how to boot and run Linux from a USB but not how to install from USB. I'll check out the link you provided. Thanks!

For DSL you boot from the USB or CD drive and then there is an option to install to hard drive.
You will find versions of Linux that will run from a USB drive. You can also find version of Linux that you can start the install process from Windows. If you specifically want to boot and install from USB then DSL will let you do that. If you have a net connection you will find other options like ... this ... and this etc.
Let us know how it goes.
