Decisions, decisions , decisions!! Which one this time?

Hey out there, I need some help deciding which Linux distro is right for this cute little laptop I recently aquired.

I would like you to be honest and forgiving to me of my lack of technical skill. Please post which linux based OS would fit my needs.....I need a OS that can, surf the net fast, fetch and send e-mail, recognize my Canon powershot camera, recognize my generic MP3 player, recognize my US robotics wireless maxg pc card 5411, run on 256 MB ram and an AMD athlon mobile 1600mhz processor.

I'm not too particular about the desktop environment. I like simple yet effective but must be fast and resource friendly.

I've been using Ubuntu on my desktop for about a year but the Xubuntu I put on the laptop will not recognize the wireless. So Ubuntu is sort of on my lower line of the list right now till all wireless problems can be figured out.

    Thank you soo much.

    Neal

What have you done about this? What is the result when you input into a terminal:
    lspci
Can you copy and paste the result to this forum please?

    Some options

I also use Xubuntu and find it fast, regarding your wireless problem is not because the developers want to make hard on you or me but because they have to deal with proprietary software they can't modify to work on Linux.

It appears that your wireless USRobotics card does work on Linux on the bottom of the page they refer to the ndiswrapper driver for Linux. In order to make it work I recommend you make another thread in the wireless section of the forum and ask there, please provide details about your computer and wireless card. I would love to help you with the wireless but I can't remember the last time I worked on it.

    Good luck

Thanks, folks but I ditched xubuntu and installed a slax variant-Absolute and like it so far but still no wireless.
I'm glad to see that there is a driver for the card. I hope that someday I will have enough time to configure it to work on my wireless network here at home because I think I like the absolute better than x ub2.

    Thanks, Neal
