Kubuntu Installation problem
ok, this i was not expecting. I downloaded Kubuntu 8.04, burned as image, and the disc works fine, however, when i go to "try it out" or "install", after loading bar bouncing back and forth for a few minutes, it starts doing a "bar", and completely hangs up the computer after reading the disc a 2nd time....so if this won't install, how do i use it, aside from installing inside windows, which it gave me the option to do upon booting into xp. the computer is a P4 1.70 GhZ (southbridge), 1.3 Gb of 266 mhz DDR, 128mb ATI video Radeon 9250, 10/100 mb LAN Full duplex, super multi- dvd burner, 12-in-1 card reader and 19" Samsung SyncMaster 955DF.
why is this not working? it's a i386 computer, trying to install Kubuntu 8.04 for i386... i'm lost.
help please. anyone.

You can install within windows or alternativly you can download the alternate install cd which uses a text installer. Chances are that your video card isnt compatible with the graphical installer.

Yeah it looks like a problem with your graphics card. Try hitting F4 on boot to look for a safe graphics mode, or if you don't have luck there you might have a look at the alternate cd to install in text mode.

i thought about running Kubuntu within Windows, but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of switching over? who whats to run an OS within another OS? makes no sense, aside from being neat lil feature.
I'd rather enjoy linux for what it truly is, not get messed up by windows slowing it down, or deciding it doesn't like it and keep shutting it down on me lol.
i saw the graphics thing under F4...i'll give it a try, and report back on what happens.

Good luck with the graphics thing. I agree on the Windows installer. I wouldn't be bother myself (even if I had Windows
) but I'm sure it's nice to test the water that way.

yea, the "graphic safe mode" didn't help any...it's like it's stopping at ROUGHLY 10%...i'm thinking it MIGHT be the 12in1 card reader, its not the first time its caused me problems before. i also checked the cd integrity, it was fine, so i dunno whats goin on now.

well, i really don't have a choice in the matter...after installing via windows, thats when it created the dual boot, but again, it stops at 10%, but now when it stops, it goes into a command promt, leaving me more confused, cuz i know NONE of these commands.
Off to download the alt.
Thanks for the help guys, mucho appreciatos.
