Linux terminology
i've been having a few troubles with my linux install and keep coming accross terminology that i dont understand.
my latest is
stanza:
i've googled this and am none the wiser for my efforts. can anybody here tell me what this word is supposed to mean in the world of linux.
the quote i found it on was
"To activate a roaming interface, adapt the following example interfaces(5)
stanza:"
but when you google it you find many more instances that seem completely irrelevant to this one.

Words can have many meanings - what is the context?

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

i dont understand what you are asking for ...
the file its in is
WebSVN - pkg-wpa - Rev 1158 - /wpasupplicant/trunk/debian/README.modes
and its at the begining of section 3
i'm begining to think all this is too complicated for me!

In that case I would say it simply means
part
as in this is part of a potentially larger fileIf we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)

In IBM parlance it usually refers to a segment of a configuration file, which looks to me like your context.

I've never heard 'stanza' used it that context, and I get by with Linux. I would recommend looking at the Jargon File and skimming through the glossary.
Don't worry, there isn't that much jargon to get used to. It's only 1s & 0s in the end.I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso
