Confused on which distro to use
i'm a current windows vista user. (came pre-installed on laptop) and i'm wanting to take a dive into the better world of linux, i have no experience with it and am looking for something simple but yet powerful once i gain a higher knowledge of the way it works.
i'm considering either ubuntu or fedora

Welcome to the forum, and Linux in general! If you haven't already, take a look at our introductory tutorials here:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/lin...ead-first.html
Either Ubuntu or Fedora are great places to start. They're both very popular and well-supported. They're also both geared toward a general-purpose audience so they'll give you a good overview of your options.
Which distribution you use depends entirely on you. The major differences between most versions of Linux are by and large visual ones. If you've ever seen someone driving a lime-green automobile, you realize that not everyone's idea of "pretty" is the same.
Play around with a couple of distributions and see what grabs you. Over all, try to have fun. If you have problems, post a thread in an appropriate section of the forum and we'll do our best to help you out.Registered Linux user #270181
