Ok first big whoops since starting to run linux again

Ok, I blew the dust off of my old linux box and set it back up on my KVM switch (I moved and it just never got unboxed)

Problem I am having now is I can't seem to remember what the Root Password is. I'm using Ubuntu 7 I believe. Is there a way to reset it, or will it just be easier to format and reinstall (Which I really don't want to have to do)

    Thanks!

Check this HowTo for several different ways to reset the root password:

The first method is usually the easiest route.

Try booting in recovery mode, open a terminal and use passwd to set the root password.

Ed: ozar has provided good advice ... recovery mode (usually second option on grub menu will boot in single user mode).

Thank you very much, I will have to try that when I get home. I'm stuck at work right now, and being a off hours As/400 computer operator I can often find time to brush up on my Linux/Unix lol
