    Linux Newbie - Choosing an OS

    Hi All,

    Firstly... let me start by introducing myself. I'm Amnesia, i'm 20 years old and from the UK.. wooo!

    Okay, now that's over....

    I decided to join here as it seems a friendly and extremely knowledgeable community!

    I currently run an Acer 5633 WLMi Laptop (1.66Ghz Core 2 Duo, 120GB HDD, 1GB DDR RAM and a 256MB nVidia 7300 Graphics Card).

    I have been browsing the forum for a while, looking at which would be the best linux for me... but to be honest, I really can't make up my mind.

    What would be a good solution for a newbie?

    I want to keep my Windows OS too, so I will be running dual operating systems. Would it be best to install onto the laptop, or an external HDD?

    Are there any issues I should be aware of before installing Linux?

    Although personally I prefer Fedora, many of my friends who are linux newbies, tried Ubuntu to get started, they seem to be happy .
    You don't need an external HDD, you can try it on your laptop.

    I have done the test, and it says ubuntu!
    So I will give that a go.

    Is it easy enough to uninstall?

    Also - I use my BlackBerry to sync my calendar etc etc quite often. Is there a program that will allow me to syn with a calendar with ubuntu?

    Hi.. Thanks for the tests.
    I've been using OpenSuse, Fedora and Ubuntu at my university for quite a long time but didn't know which one to install for an office environment.

    I'm going with Opensuse at the moment. Can someone instruct me how to install drivers for my printers and copiers etc?
    I would be much obliged.

    What are the brands and models of the Printers and Copiers?
    I would check google first though if I was you, however the distro may have the drivers in built.
