DSL - boot HD iso with floppy?
Hi, I'm a complete Linux newb, thanks for your help!
I have DSL [Damn Small Linux, but I'm sure you knew that!] on CD, boots fine from the CD drive.
I have Win95 on hda1, want to keep it that way.
Have DSL iso on hda2 [Frugal Install], swapfile hda3[inactive], hda4 for additional apps/files[inactive].
I'd prefer not to mess with the MBR and lilo/grub etc. I have tomsrtbt on floppy. Can I use a floppy to boot to the hda2 iso? How could I do this?
I want to boot to Win95 unless I put in the floppy.
800Mhz Athlon 128MB system.

I don't quite understand what it is you're trying to do. Care to explain a bit better?
From what I can figure is you're trying to access the .iso file of DSL on hda2? Is this correct?

Thank you. Yes, ordinarily [as I understand it], you would use lilo etc to create a boot menu in the Master Boot Record. You could choose to boot into Windows or Linux when the PC starts.
I just want a floppy disk to use when I start up the PC...that will boot the iso image of DSL that resides on my hda2. If no disk, the PC just goes normally into Windows. Is this possible?
I hope that is clear, I don't understand much as yet!

Aha.. OK,
Now I understand what you mean but I'm afraid I can't help you with your question... Anyway, you will have to do more than just boot the iso (unless it's a livecd iso?, because when Linux is installed the iso obviously disappears and the operating system resides along with all its files on disk.
Good luck with this one

I'm 90% certain Ultimate Boot CD lets you pick which partition to boot off of, though I don't have it handy to make sure. Might want to look into that.
