Why don't you simply download a LiveCD to try Linux for yourself?
There's no reason to decide your move based on others' opinions, so asking what's the difference won't get you anywhere. Except, if you're asking out of curiosity.

The file directory structure in Linux is different. Your little space within it where you spend most of your time everyday is tucked away into it differently. The menus are arranged differently than Windows' of course. You will need to enter an administrator password that is other than your own personal users password that you will know if you are the one who installs the system now and then when you want to do something to the system such as changing a firewall setting for example as opposed to deciding what player you want to open an mp3 with for example. There can be more than one user all of whom will have there own personal passwords because it is a multi user system.
There are a lot of little subtleties that all go together to make a totally different system that really is the same as a Windows system in other ways because it has a desktop, windows, icons, taskbar (panel) that are too numerous to describe.
Solaris I believe is similar to Linux, however again, I believe the file directory structure is laid out somewhat differently.
The best way to find out ahead of time as the other posters have mentioned is to download a live cd and run the program from there. Both Solaris and many Linux distributions (if not all the major ones?) have live cds available.
If you do, you might want to check and see whether the one you choose is running Kde or Gnome as they are different desktop experiences.
I hope this helps answer the question you were asking.
