Why do you need it unless your running a serer for Windows users? Linux is virus free.

No. There are no viruses that run in Linux. There are a few worms and trojans but no viruses. The few worms and trojans that do exist are not in the wild and can only do damage if given root access through human interaction(ie. the sysadmin has to intentionally deploy the thing).
While malware does exist that will work in Linux, a simple set of security rules(firewall and never performing everyday tasks as root) reduces risk to almost nil.
Now, in answer to your original question, AVG Grisoft has an AV for Linux. There's also Dr.Web and a couple of others. But, like the first reply said, they're pretty much a waste of resources unless you're serving content to Windows clients.OH NOOOOO!!!!!! You did it the way I said?

As many others have said, linux is not vunerable to viruses. Noe aside from the obvious reasons of 99% of all viruses made to run on windows, and windows viruses not running on linux. Basicaly, Linux's #1 security feature is root. If you don't run task as root, a virus has no access to system functions, and cannot infect or harm you system in any serious way.

I explain this becaues it took me a long time to understand linux security, and in this post the term 'virus' refers to malicous code of any sort.

virus vs malware
I am looking for a free virus and malware scanner that I can use with Knoppix so I can scan a drive without booting it.
