    Better for what purpose? These type of questions are difficult to answer because what might be "better" for one individual, may not be "better" for another.

    I'm not a UNIX guru, but BSD was derived originally from System V code, and BSD is free of charge. To the best of my knowledge most System V UNIX operating systems are commercial products.
