Cannot get wireless internet to work on Xubuntu

Hey guys, I'm kinda new to this whole Linux thing, so go easy on me I'm currently running Xubuntu alongside Windows XP Home Edition, simply for something new to try. I once used regular Ubuntu, but I took that off a while ago in a temper, and now I thought I'd have another go, but this time with Xubuntu, simply because I like Xubuntu the most so far. However, one thing I cannot figure out is how to get my wireless internet to work. I tried Xubuntu on the crappy old PC downstairs, which is hardwired LAN, and it works on the internet instantly- but on my wireless PC, it simply does not work.

I've done my reading around on Google, found loads of help threads and walkthroughs, but I keep getting a couple of road blocks everytime I try.

The one major problem I'm having is when trying to use sudo commands such as sudo cat /etc/network/interfaces, it keeps coming up with command not found, which is really halting my progress.

I assume that I am using eth0, since when I shut Linux down I see a <note> saying that eth0 is being deactivated Does this mean that Linux knows my wireles adapter is plugged in?

If it helps, I'm using a BT Voyager 1055 Laptop Adapter (USB dongle).

Basically, I'd like someone to take me through how to get my wireless interneting working as easily as possible. Once I can get my wireless working, I can pretty much do anything inside Linux, since I can using the internet while logged on to Xubuntu. As it stands, I'm having to copypaste any help documents I find onto my USB flash drive in Windows, and then load them up to read in Xubuntu on Abiword, which isn't the most practical way of doing things.

    All help is appreciated

wireless interfaces are normally called wlanx, while ethernet are normally labeled ethx, so my guess is eth0 is your ethernet port, not the wireless

    post output of
    Code:
    lsusb
we need to know the chipset your wireless usb uses so we can direct you to the right driver for it
