    stuck in init runlevel 2

so I was installing the driver for my graphics card (ATI radeon x700 128mb), downloaded it form:

    ATI Catalyst™ 8.5 Proprietary Linux x86_64 Display Driver - For Intel® EM64T and AMD64 Platform Architecture

installed it successfully, I then tried to get it synced to my tv by using the command "aticonfig --initial=dual-head" it worked, but my desktop still wasnt showing on the tv, so I decided to kill and restart xorg by pressing ctrl+alt+backspace, and since then everytime I restart I get stuck in init runlevel 2, I try to boot up into init 5, but it gets stuck everytime it is starting anacron

    please help, thank you
