    compatible hardware

i want to run linux and i was leaning towards opensuse. i installed it on my current box only to have trouble due to the nvidia driver catch after install. i have an nvidia chipset but an ati video card. i am researching components for a new build as well so i have it in my head to choose a mobo with an amd/ati chipset to avoid the nvidia driver problem that i cant work through at this point. is this a mistake or should i just switch to another linux os that is easier to install at this point? will i just end up with more driver trouble choosing a newer piece of hardware? i just figured my options are to work through the nvidia driver technicality, buy a mobo without that problem or switch to another linux os and i just thought i could get some good advice here to steer me in the right direction.

Can you be more specific about this "driver catch" you've run into? The onboard chipset of the motherboard shouldn't conflict with your video hardware. I've had an ATI board and Nvidia display card before and they ran just fine.

What board and what video card? What problems did you run into? What version of SuSE were you using? Details, please.

TY for the quick reply. i installed opensuse 10.3 onto my current box and was able to get into the desktop so i thought i had done something right.then when i tried to install my drivers for my system(bus, ethernet, etc) and my display drivers i was unable to get anywhere with it. i found something on the opensuse website that told me the nvidia driver cannot be integrated directly into opensuse, that there is a repository containing the driver. i tried to add it off a disk during install with no luck.i was unable to setup my display or get online. i basically can install opensuse 10.3 but once inside the desktop i cant get any farther. i just assumed it was due to drivers. im sure i could be doing something wrong but i did everything i could think of. my mobo is a k9n diamond with a radeon 1900xt video card.
