Who suggested Mandrake? Perhaps someone from mid 18th century came and gave it to you. Mandrake is now old. Why don't you go for Mandriva (formerly Mandrake). It has a URPMI package management system. I haven't used Mandrake actually. Or if you are too lazy then Ubuntu is a better option. The laziest method to install software is apt-get install ........... let your imagination run wild.

You can find various gcc packages for Ubuntu here (about one-third down the way on the page):
Ubuntu -- Software Packages in "hardy", Subsection devel
They should be installable with apt-get if you have the correct repos enabled.oz
