Whats up. My friend gave me an old computer that he didn't want anymore. It has Windows on it but when you start it it has a message saying it is missing a file. I don't really wanna waste my time trying to figure it out. Instead I just wanna install Linux on it.

I was wondering what version of Linux I should use for this computer.

    Welcome to the forums patrick_122

You should take a look here for suggestions on a distro for older computer hardware. Depending on the specification of the computer you may also want to take a look here as well.

    Welcome to the forums!

Take a look at the link in my signature for lots of good information on getting started with Linux.

Hope it turns out to be a great experience for you.
