Newbies I know alias cp to mv the files to a temporary directory (simulating an intermediate trashcan) and cleaning the temp dir after a period of time. UNIX/Linux systems are generally unforgiving to users doing stupid things.

I have never been able to successfully undelete from ext3.
Do this enough and you too will develop a healthy appreciation for multiple backups. How to make a backup, how to age backups, how to archive backup; I predict you will learn this knowledge soon.

Is it a single file?
if so you can get from journal easily (i don't want to scare you abt internals ..)
(You can try ext3grep or testdisk or photorec.)
If it's a single file ..i can help you... I will try my best ....(but i can't assure you on success) other wise check with above said tools
Ps : Don't shutdown or reboot your system. and don't do anything on system....
v can Check journal and recover it ....i'm waiting for your reply ...ping me if it's a single file...because i recovered via journal few weeks back ...
