    Permissions issues

For some reason I can't download all files in a directory from an ftp server. I am a member of the group and have r-x permissions but not all the file are transferred. Are there other permission settings or attributes that I need to look for on those files that don't get downloaded?

When you say you have r-w permissions, is that on all the files?
Some files could have different permissions to the others in there.

Do you have r-x on all of the files, or on the directory? If the directory, that just means you can see the directory's contents.

However, I assume that you have read permission on the file you're trying to download. Does the file simply not appear, or do you get some sort of error message?

The r-x permissions are on all the files and directories. The error message is some files could not be downloaded.

If you already have files of that name in your target directory their permissions (no write) would prevent further copies being downloaded.

There aren't any files in the target directory prior to the download

It could be errors occuring during transfer. I use FileZilla and it gives great(ish) messages and more importantly, allows you to retry failed files very easily.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
