Compiling FireFox 3 Should I ? Or should I just apt-get ?
First off, I'm using Kubuntu. Latest build as of yesterday 7-17-08 64 bit. I completely forgot that Kubuntu used Konqueror rather than FF. Anyway, I'd like to use an up-to date Fire Fox, as it is really nice IMO, but don't think that the one from the repositories is the latest stable build that Mozilla has released, but is only at like an alpha 8 build or something. That's what I recall hearing, anyway.
The question is, would I be better off compiling the latest and greatest FF in Kubuntu, or would I still be better off using what is in the repositories. And if the answer is the former, then I'm pretty stumped in knowing how to do so. I tried some code I found at psychocats.org, but even in the right directory, I was being told that the file or folder didn't exist.
Any help would be appreciated at this point. Thanks,
Doug

If you can't get the latest version from the repos, and you don't really want to compile it, you can download the binary from the Mozilla website, decompress it, drop it into your /home/username directory and run it directly from there by clicking (or creating a button for it) on the firefox file within the new mozilla folder.
I ran all the Firefox3 beta and RC releases that way just because it was quick and easy.oz

The latest Firefox in the repositories is the 2008061015 build which is only a few weeks old. It is a full Firefox 3 release. In fact the (k)Ubuntu repos had it before the official launch. If there are any security patches that are deemed serious there will be an update to that package again.

Sweet ! Actually, I was impatient and got it from the repositories a couple hours ago.
Haven't had time to check it out yet though, but glad to hear it's a full version. Nice. Thanks guys.
