    setting programs to start on bootup

    i have a couple of programs i want to start on bootup, one i want to start durring standard startup (as root) and the other i want to startup with the session.

    how would i go about doing this?

    Be more specific. What distribution and what desktop environment do you use?

    The different .xinit startup scripts could be one possibility.

    Start the standard startup one via the /etc/rcX.d mechanism. As GNU-Fan says - we need more info to help with the session start: if you're using command line put it in the shell's profile (.bashrc, .profile, etc).

    ah, sorry shoulda been more specific, im using debian lenny with the kde desktop.

    i shall have to check out the rc.d though...
