Linux uses essentially the same firewall, but the front end for it comes in a few different forms. I prefer GuardDog. Very nice and intuitive "GUI" that lets you configure your ports. Fedora should have a built in utility for handleing ports. It used to be:
But they might have changed it to:Code:system-config-securitylevel
...or something.Code:system-config-firewall
As far as spyware and virus protection... This really isn't needed. Linux is not nearly as susceptible to viruses and cannot "catch" viruses made for Windows. If on the other hand, you are wanting a Linux app that detects Windows viruses so as not to pass them on to Windows users, Clamav is a very good tool for this.

You can create your own topics on the "root" of this subforum, here:

Under the header of the page, there's a button "create new thread".
Regarding your other question, linux does not use natively .exe files. To run these (if you really need to), you got to install WINE, which will run some windows software.
But it's possible that you can find a linux-native metric conversion calculator. You just need to run the package manager program of your distribution (probably "adept" or "synaptic", the first one being somewhat better to use, I think). These programs are quite intuitive to use, you just search for terms like "metric conversion calculator" and then there will be a list of programs with these terms in their descriptions, you read the descriptions carefully in order to assure that it's really what you want, and choose which one seems to be the best for you.
Or you may just use google for conversions, I'm pretty much sure it does that.

Unlike windows, Linux doesn't need a spyware/anti virus program (there are a few out there but I don't know many people who use them...actually I've only seen a couple ever use them). As for firewalls, same deal for the most part, this is more up for debate and there are a few out there (I used to use one then just stopped, knowing that Linux is much more secure than both Mac and Windows, I just decided that it wasn't wroth it). I know the following ones are fairly good:
Lokkit and Guarddog both are solid firewalls, again though, I'm not sure if it's necessary like in Windows...actually I'm sure it's not but if you are really protective you can install it easily from the repos.Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17

I think that may be interesting to hava an anti-virus just to not spread mail viruses to windows users. Most of the time it's probably unnecessary anyway, as the vast majority will come in stupid e-mails with subject lines like "check this out", from people we don't even know, and etc. But just in case someone creates a virus that is somewhat smarter than that, and infects someone we know, sends a message that we could willingly forward to others, then would be interesting to have an anti-virus. And maybe other reasons I can't come up with right now.

Fair enough, here's the one I used and instructions on how to install and use it:
