Unhappy Donwloading software (having an issue)

This is my first post on the forums.
    Anyways...
OK, so I went to Linux.org and tried to download Black Penguin (an arcade game). I also tried to download the GCC complier off of softpedia.com. I downloaded them using the Archive Manager but they downloaded as different folders with images and scripting. I extracted the files, but no pop-ups came up just nothing happend after extracting.
    So... my questions are...
    A. How do I find or open my extracted files?
    B. Did I download them wrong? (I clicked the link to download, it downloaded, I opened the folder, I extracted)
    C. Do you think the files are made for 32-bit? (not PPC)
Thanks, I am just figuring things out and I need to download the files.

If you want to install software the first thing you should do is looking in you package manager (wich variates from distro to distro). Not just randomly download programs, in windows every program that has .exe can be executed, the point is .. linux is not windows. If you can quete me the distro you are using I can give you the direction how to install new software / manage it etc...
