Which Linux distro has good hardware detection and package management?
I tried Ubuntu but it didn't work properly with my monitor refresh rate when I installed Nvidia drivers for my graphics card. And I tried EnvyNG also, but that didn't help. I don't know how to modify the xorg.config file (I guess that's what it's called) yet, I am too new to Linux for that complex stuff. I have a 5 year old 19" CRT monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 997DF) and a 512mb Geforce 8800 GT video card. My actual computer system is only 4 months old and I have a Athlon 64 Dual Core 6400+ processor. So which Linux distro would be best? I am brand new to Linux.
Any responses will be appreciated.
Thanks

"Best" is a relative term. Your choice in Linux distribution is a personal one. On a relatively new system, your choices aren't really limited; any major distribution should work fine. If Ubuntu didn't grab you (and you're not interested in trying to get it working) try one of the others. There's a link in this thread that can help you choose:

If you'd like help in trying to get your monitor problem fixed, please feel free to start a thread in the Ubuntu section of the forum and we'll do our best to help you out. Welcome to the forums, and to Linux in general.Registered Linux user #270181
