    New to linux...

I'm trying to do research to find out how to go about switching from windows xp to linux. I've heard of ubuntu and havent really found out that much info on the o/s. The main files i use are dreamweaver 8, shockwave, and architectural desktop 2004. I just wanted to know if any of these programs will have a problem with ubuntu? If so, is there a linux software out there that will support these programs? And is linux right for a newbie like myself??

I am not sure it's possible to run these applications and I don't know their analogs in Linux. Try to look at Wine documentation, maybe it'll help you ( Wine HQ )

    Welcome to the forums!

If you have apps that won't run under WINE, you can look for equivalents here:

Linux App Finder | Helping find the Linux apps you need

The table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux

If you should find any apps that you are interested in, look for it in the default software repository of your Linux distribution before trying to install it from source.

Of course, dual-booting between Linux and Windows is also a very popular choice.

    Have fun with Linux.
