Login without root as root?
I installed Zenwalk standard and was wondering if it's possible to bypass the login?
There is a problem with Lilo as well as a few other things, and I'd like to be able to get into the hd to fix it, I can do it all from the prompt as long as I have mc to help me out, lol...
The real problem is that I am using the boot loader from vector linux, zen wouldn't overwrite it because it kept passing some odd values in it's lilo.conf file, never using /dev/hda as a mount point but rather /dev/sda which I do not need. Also, Zen didn't ask for me to create any users or a root on installing. So I didn't get the chance to create any...
I've tried installing about 5 different times and I get the same problem...But at least I can get the Login screen...Now if only I can get 'in' to fix it...
Thanks...

If I'm understanding the problem correctly, you should be able to boot with pretty much any liveCD distribution, then mount your current system partitions as needed to make any required changes.
My personal preference for an emergency type liveCD is PartedMagic because it's a small download and it has lots of good utilities with it, but most of the other liveCDs should work as well.oz

<EDIT>
Ok, I loaded my DSL live cd and tried to do it from there. Just seeing if I'm using this correctly...
lilo -C lilo.conf #Pointing to the conf file which has my hard drive information on it.
When I run that it says that it can not write to a read only drive for the map file...I think that the /boot drive is on the CD itself, so how can I change that? I'm still reading through the Lilo documentation, but so far I am really stumped...

Ok, now when it boots up it says that there might be a problem with the ext2 file system of the drive. Message shown from e2fsck.
If there is a problem such as that, would I still be able to edit and work in that drive?
