Howdy and welcome to LinuxForums! Glad to see that you're gonna give Linux a shot.
First, you say that you use Photoshop. Are you aware that Photoshop does not run on Linux? We have an image-editing program called GIMP (Gtk Image Manipulation Program) that is like Photoshop, but not quite as powerful, so if you do any hardcore Photoshop, you might want to consider a dual-boot setup.
Your question about looking more Mac OS X-like is a common one, and there are several guides out there for trying to do it. Googling for "Gnome Mac OS X" will give you a good list. Here's one of them:

Jake,
As Cabhan said, welcome to LinuxForums and the Linux community in general. As a new user, I'm surprised you're using Mandriva, but more power to you. It isn't that bad, it just seems like most people start with Ubuntu these days.
You can do all sorts of stuff with your desktop; in fact, while I admire your probably pretty good idea of Black + Mac OS X themed, don't limit yourself. Browse through all the different ways you can customize your desktop with all the different window managers. And hey -- if you're a photoshop/GIMP guy, maybe you'd even be interested in creating new themes to share with other users. Collaboration like that is what makes the linux community so rich.
Anyway, I'm really just echoing Cabhan, so best of luck and don't hesitate to ask questions (but do check the forum rules first)!
