Hello!
I am truly and utterly new to Linux... I have only tried it out on VMware Player. Now I am about to buy a notebook and I do not want Windows any more...
I am going to buy hp 6730b, freeDOS. I want to know does it have all the necessary drivers for Linux and where do I look up that information?
Thx y'all

Welcome to the forums!

I don't think that notebook comes with any Linux drivers, but it comes with Windows installed on it, instead.
I have heard of people successfully running Linux on it, though. This gentoo wiki page discusses that particular laptop working under Linux just a bit:
HP Compaq 6730b - Gentoo Linux Wiki
Maybe someone that is already running Linux on it will reply with additional information.oz

Just got issued one of these puppies at work. Since it's work's laptop, I won't be putting Linux on it myself, but I do have access and can tell you that there shouldn't be any problems.
The onboard graphics is Intel, and they're very good about open drivers.
The onboard wifi in mine is an Intel 5100, which has open drivers, but some of the other variations on this model have Broadcom wifi, which will be a headache to say the least.
The onboard sound is simple-stupid HDA with an ADI1981 DAC, that should work just fine on any half-recent distro.
The hard drive/DVD are standard SATA stuff, nothing special there.
So in summary, you'll want to use as recent a distro as possible just to make sure the X4500 Intel graphics work right, but beyond that it's pretty generic. Shouldn't cause any problems.
FWIW, it is an EFI system, but it has a BIOS compatibility module, so it ends up meaning almost nothing for your average end user.
Personally I'd recommend Ubuntu 8.10. That's what I'll slip on here once I have time and I'm sure it's OK with management.

Good-Day I also got mine issued to me at work, however with the company wanting to move most of the equipment over to linux I have the fun of testing.
I loaded Mandrive 2010 on it without any hassles, network and graphics configured perfectly.
I am having a problem with the wireless card still and the one that lead me to this post my builtin 3G adapter - if anyone else has succeeded with the HP 3G adapter for these notebooks pls pls pls pls let me know
