    Kde 4...

    Hi All,

Just wanted to get people's opinions about when KDE 4 will be stable AND functional? I have installed it a few times now and every time I find new glitches and annoying bugs. My most recent try had the following three right off the bat:

    1. My media controls on the front of my laptop don't control anything out of the box and I couldn't figure out how to get them working through kmix (I tried a ton of things). With KDE 3.5 my volume controls worked out of the box - with gnome I've never had a problem

    2. When I accidentally deleted the window manager thing in the taskbar it was suh a pain to get it back in and then I couldn't move it around to get it to be in the right spot (the clock moved from the right to the left when I deleted it and I couldn't get it back).

    3. When I booted out and back in some of the things that are supposed to be icons on the right bottom taskbar (such as the network manager for wireless, and the adept package manager) came up as actual windows that were in the top left of my screen and had corresponding window navigation entries...not sure if that makes sense but I can do a screenshot if I install again -- this has actually happened to me in 3.5 a couple times a well.

So....basically, I like the look of KDE 4 a lot but when should I install it and expect it to function well? 4.2? 4.5? Thanks!

You're not alone in your feelings about KDE4 being buggy. See this thread. I'm not a fan of KDE myself, but the main sentiments of most users seems to be that the initial release is almost useless, but hoping for better results with 4.1.

Just based on my own experiences with it and all the upgrades that have been released so far, I'm guessing it will be around 4.4, or later.
