Well, I've not run Sabayon, but I've heard some good things about it. And since it's based on Gentoo it's a good thing you've got some knowledge of Linux. Portage pretty much takes care of you on dependencies and such, but there might be a few things that just don't go right! Persona;;y, I would run it Live for a short while and see if it really suits your needs. I do recall that there is an active member right now who is running it... and likes it a lot!

Let us know how it goes!

I've heard good things about Arch... Any error messages when you tried to install it?

If you like eyecandy, then Sabayon should be good for you.

It's not a difficult distro to use, and is easier to install and configure than Gentoo, so you might really like it.

I *loved* Sabayon a few releases ago, but it started to get a little buggy for my liking. Lots of install flags (I forget what Gentoo calls them) were missing, causing package installation to consistently go wrong, and lots of other minor things.

Also, be aware that it's not quite Gentoo, since it's not compiled from scratch, i.e. you won't be able to "emerge world" as you would on a Gentoo system.
