    Question New to Linux(Windows Guy)

    Hi every one!
I am new to the forums and new to Linux, just started 2 days ago and I am loving it already.
Since I am a windows guy I would like to find a version of Linux that is as close to Windows as possible until I get comfy with it.I downloaded Ubuntu and isntalled it,went nuts with it,downloaded Kubuntu and same thing happen, did a google search and found Xandros, fell in love with it but you know the feeling $$$ to buy it.
Is there any other that looks sort of Windows Mikisoft out there but free?
Guys, sorry to bother you with all this nonsences but I would appreciate your help very much. Thanks to all.

    Welcome to the forums!

Most Linux users are trying to get as far from Windows as possible, so my personal suggestion is that you dual-boot between Windows and Linux until you feel more comfortable with it. There are some Linux distributions available that mimic WinXP in looks, but I can't personally recommend them.

I'm not sure about the price, but I see the following toted as similar to windows pretty often:
    Linux Mint
    PCLinuxOS
    Linspire
    Linux XP

I'm surprised to didn't like kubuntu. The KDE interface is very similar to windows.

Was it just the look you didn't like? I've seen some mac skins for various distros. I'm sure someone has put together one to look exactly like windows.

I agree with Ozar, do a dual boot, because Windows looks are not that nice on Linux systems, Linux has other cool features, look on youtube for Ubuntu + Compiz.
If you are not familiar with dual booting, the Ubuntu community has an alternative, Wubi installer, it just installs Ubuntu (Kubuntu to I thought) inside your Windows partition. If you don't like it you can just un-install it like any other windows application.

YouTube - Compiz Fusion HOWTO : Make Linux Look like Vista's Aero

if you follow this tutorial, and it will look/function like Windows Vista, 100% (minus all of the stuff that makes it windows). It uses Compiz Fusion and the Emerald theme manager. Not sure where to the latter.

    Welcome to the forums

I agree with Ozar, that dual-booting would be a good idea. Remember, Linux is not Windows -- and that's why we like it. We *like* all the differences, and don't want them to go away! If I wanted to use something like Windows, then I'd use Windows

If you're worried about getting stuck, then I'd recommend going with one of the popular distributions -- Ubuntu, Suse, Fedora, etc. Their popularity (especially Ubuntu), means it should be easy for you to find some help if you need it.
