which one is right for me?
Hello, this is my first post here and im just looking for some help on which distro of linux i should use. first off ill say my pc specs
Amd Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8 GHz
1Gb Ram
160gb Hdd
ATI Radeon X1650Pro 512 Video Ram
Ive used UbuntU in the past and found it to be quite confusing and hard to get certain things to work, so im pretty much a newbie when it comes to linux.
I'm looking for the most stable one and easiest to use with updates and such and for it to fit on one 700mb cd-r and to be free. Id be using it for surfing the web, music, movies, and games.
Please any help would be appreciated
thank you.

Welcome to the forums!

Take a look at DistroWatch.com for a listing of distributions that you can use. Any out of the top 20 or so should probably work for you. We are unable to tell you what you would like best, as the chances of us having exactly the same computer hardware and the same tastes in an operating system are slim.
You can also take a look at the link in my signature for lots of good information on getting started with Linux.
Hope it all works out well for you.oz

Fedora (my favorite) Ubuntu, Suse, Debian, and Mandrivia are probably the most popular distros that are easy to use (I wont suggest Slakware or Gentoo to a new penguine, that's just mean
)
I would start with those, and see which one you like the best, then you can spread from there, however if your looking for different desktop looks, try Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Xubuntu, they are the same base distro, but have the 3 most popular desktop environments (the look of the GUI,) Gnome, KDE, and XFCE (in that order).New to the internet, technical forums, or the hacker / open source community??

What problems did you have with Ubuntu?
FYI: ATI video cards can sometimes be problematic under Linux, so you might have some trouble getting it working. It's not impossible, but you might be back here a few times!

Yeah, the latest Fedora is on a liveDVD. If you google a bit you can find someone that has put it on CDs, but the DVD might be the better way to go.
If you have a 32-bit machine you need the i386 version. If you have a 64-bit machine, you can use either version.
Have fun with it!oz
