Windows ISO crashes under Wine
Hello,
Im trying to run a video game, designed for Windows. Im trying to run the ISO of the game CD, with Wine 1.0.
Problem is: the only thing I can access is the autorun main window. When I click on "Install" button, the main window closes and nothing happens. I've tried to run the game in a shell :
wine xxx.iso
But same problem. i ve got no error message when the window crashes.
My computer
Dell Inspiron 1525n
Ubuntu 8.04
Kernel Linux 2.6.24-21-generic
Wine 1.0
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
How I mount the ISO image in a shell :
sudo mount -t iso9660 -o loop xxx.iso /media/iso
Thanks for any help,
Andy

Hello and Welcome!
Wine isn't perfect, and there are some programs that just won't run under it. Try looking into the Wine Database to see if it has any type of performance rating. Also note, however, that the same program might run under Wine for one individual and yet not even load for another.Jay

Wine
Hello,
Ive checked the Wine App DB already. Says it works perfect. Maybe that ISO definitely can't work on my computer then ... Just surprised there is no error message at all. Not common.
Anyway. thanks for the welcoming
I'm new to Linux, Ubuntu actually. Think I'll hang around there for quite some time, coz Ubuntu/Linux rocks, and so does the open source spirit

You could always install some sort of virtualization program such as VMWare, VirtualBox, QEmu, etc. These let you install a virtual machine "inside" of your host operating system (Ubuntu in this case.) You could install Windows XP, Windows Vista, another Linux distro or whatever you choose on top of your native Linux installation. To me, not having to use Windows very often is one of the reasons Linux is so great to me, but sometimes there are things that just aren't compatible. In those cases, something like virtualization is worth a try.

[SOLVED]Windows ISO crashes under Wine
Hello,
Sorry for the delay in my answering. Thanks for the advice on virtualization. I keep note of this cool alternative, though I dont need it for the moment. Wine does fulfill my few "Windows needs".
The solution for me was to burn the ISO to a CD.
Thanks and long live Open Source
