New to linux. requesting help choosing distro
To All,
My new notebook died the other day and I am forced to use my older notebook from a few years ago. While I am waiting for my new notebook to arrive I think a Linux OS would run best on my old notebook. Can I please get some opinions regarding which Linux distrobution would be best for my old notebook.
Old notebook specs:
233MB RAM
Mobile Intel (R) Celeron (R) CPU 2.00GHz
Available disk space is 30GiG's
I am most interested in using this old notebook for web surfing and generally have many windows open.
Thank you for your help.

The processor and the hdd are fine, but its RAM is a bit low. If you don't want to upgrade it to 512MB, i suggest to avoid using KDE or Gnome. You can try Xubuntu for example, which is like Ubuntu, but uses XFCE instead of Gnome and it needs less RAM.

As L4Linux noted, your RAM is a bit low, but it should be able to handle the bulk of the system. Whatever distro you end up using, make sure to disable unnecessary services and find a lightweight window manager such as XKCE or Fluxbox (which would be my personal preference). You can definitely use Xubuntu as stated above, or you could also choose another distro if you're already comfortable and just install a new window manager and tweak for speed.
