Intro to a new world
Hi there,
Firstly I'd like to say a hi to all. I'm Hilton and brand new to Linux. I've downloaded Debian and am going to install it on an old computer lying around. What I want to know is how to go about it. The reason I'm posting is because I have no idea where to start. I only have a laptop at home and have obtained an old box with working parts, or so I hope. I do not have a monitor or anything else and would like to simply have the box connected as a home network and I connect and log onto the Linux box and do all the things I want to do. Is it possible to do the install without directly connecting a monitor to it or am I already wandering down the wrong track?

Welcome to the forums!

Yes, it can be done. Do a google search for install linux without monitor and you'll get a few HowTos on how to go about it. If you can find one using Debian, you might be able to make adjustments to one using Knoppix or Ubuntu since they are based on Debian.
Hope it works out well for you.oz
