    Try Ubuntu. You can install it even inside windows without making a new partition. When you feel comfortable enough with Ubuntu you can make a normal install to a seperate partition. Just boot into Windows, insert the Ubuntu cd and choose "install inside windows".
    Another way is to download and run wubi. It will do the same thing without having burned an Ubuntu-cd first.
