    newbie needs help- usb modem

    Hi i have suse linux enterprise 10, and i cant get my 3 usb modem to work, i dont have a clue what to do, on my previous windows computer i just plugged it in and it set itself up, i plug it into the linux one and it wont let me run the autorun.exe file to set it up.

    can anyone guide me through it as im really stuck and completely new to suse and linux.

    You'll probably need to find special drivers for it... odds are just a little search through google with your modem's model number.

    You could also try the linmodems site. They have a lot of data about winmodems and how to convert them.

    You usually can't use a Windows .exe binary in Linux.

    If this is a wireless broadband modem, you may be able to use a dialup program like kppp or wvdial.

    If you tell people more about what brand, model, use, etc, it's for, then they're usually more able to help too ^_^ For example, I've been trying to setup my Verizon USB UM150 on Solaris... but I don't know much about PPP yet, XD.
