ok y'all, im completely new linux. i just bought an aspire one and am trying to install vlc. i have searched this topic a lot on here but i never seem to get a result that works. i see things like packet, repository, rpm. none of these things mean anything to me. i guess i first need to know what i'm looking for. can someone please help me?

its linpus lite. i've heard its based on fedora but once again, that means nothing to me.

I don't have an Aspire One, or run Linpus Lite, so can't check it directly but it appears from reading the HowTo that the package manager is called Pirut, and is already installed.
Is that incorrect?oz

Not sure about this since I don't run VLC, but it appears that you might need to install the pulseaudio package, or some other pulse oriented library package.
Maybe someone more familiar with VLC and pulse libraries will chime in with some additional information for you.oz

ok so i FINALLY got vlc installed. not really hard but my connection where i am sucks so it was mostly waiting on downloads. anyway, i can now play avi files. my next question is, how do i create an icon for downloaded software and apps?
