    A question

I have been a windows user for the most part of my life and I thought maybe I might experiment with Linux but then I got to thinking what is the point of Linux, what benefits over Windows and Mac's does it have to win me over and use that. I am interested in programming but I don't have much experience as I just barely know enough to right a silly program. Are there any things that Linux might have over the main two OS's for programming?

    Welcome to the forums!

Check the link in my signature for lots of good information on getting started with Linux. There's a link there that explains some of the differences in Linux and Windows, and a couple of quizzes that might help you to pick your first distribution should you decide to try Linux.

Hope it all goes well for you whether it's with Linux, or Windows.

    Hello and Welcome!

There are a few details about Linux that might pique your interest. Security, stability, ease of use... That's just to name a few. I think the link that ozar was referring to that would give you the right idea is Linux is not Windows. But all the other info there is good to read up on as well.
If you're still not sure about giving Linux a shot on an installation, perhaps you might want to consider a LiveCD, such as Knoppix. That way, you can look at it, try it out, and come to your own conclusions.
