which distro for imac G3 ?

First of all, sorry for asking this, I know it's not allowed to ask which distro I need to use.

But so far I didn't have any succes chosing the distros for my iMac myself...

I tried to install, Xubuntu 6.06 which worked, but couldn't get my wireless usb to run.

then I tried Xubuntu 8.10, which didn't work at all, then I tried 7.10, which didn't work either, because of x-server failings...

I'm just looking for a distro which is sure to work on my imac G3 PPC 600Mhz 640Mb RAM 30Gb HDD...

I just want to watch movies on it...

    Grtz!

    Welcome to the forums!

I can't make a specific recommendation for you , but wireless is often one of the first hurdles that lots of new users have to get past. Your best bet is to stick with newer versions of any distro that you try because of the newer kernel, which will include better hardware support. Running liveCD versions of various distros is usually a good way to test your hardware.

Hopefully someone with the same hardware as you will step in here with some distro recommendations that are known to work well on that hardware.

    Good luck with it.

    thx for the quick reply!

The newer versions of ubuntu didnt seem to work because they tried to autoconfigurate the /etc/X11/xorg.conf automaticly, and I get loads of other errors before I can even boot the live CD

xubuntu 8.10 installed fine, but only in low graph mode, and was unable to run any applications from the desktop.

I'm now trying to install 6.06 again and then update it over the internet to 8.04, hopefuly that'll work

    Grtz
